I return often to Italy, drawn by both its rich history and the opportunity to refine my practice in egg tempera, as described in Cennini’s Il Libro dell’Arte - the first “how-to” art book published in the late 1400s. My work blends the old with the new, combining realism with 15th-century aesthetics. I’m driven by a deep love of challenges, a commitment to excellence, and an enduring passion for the Renaissance. I find joy in the traditional craftsmanship involved in every stage of the process—from preparing ancient recipes to executing time-honored egg tempera and gilding practices. My portraits and still lifes, intimate in both scale and focus, reflect what matters to me. Each subject presents a “beautiful challenge,” offering an opportunity to study, interpret, and preserve. I delight in capturing the subtle nuances that bring an object to life, revealing the inner essence of an individual, and striving to achieve the luminous quality that egg tempera painters have sought for centuries.
